Scoop is a biannual magazine sharing the inside story on Irish food.

At Scoop, we curate an inclusive snapshot of Irish food that reflects on the past, celebrates our deliciously diverse present and looks forward to the future. Indie, edgy and women-led, our goal is to be a bold, creative, collectible journal.

Our focus on long-form writing allows Scoop to do a deep dive into a topic to explore all aspects of Irish food and drink, from art to agriculture, food policy to the plate. Think of it as a cross between Cherry Bombe in the US and Noble Rot in the UK.

With two issues published biannually in spring and autumn, Scoop is a thought-provoking read leaving you hungry for more. We invite both new and established writers to participate in every issue – we are open to pitches from writers from any genre offering a fresh take or perspective.

We believe there are two things that connect absolutely everyone: food and stories. More people need to be able to share their food and by extension their story, which is why Scoop will be the third pillar of the Nine Bean Rows publishing company along with the Nine Bean Rows imprint for full-size books and the Blasta Books quarterly series of small cookbooks. They all come under the umbrella of our company slogan:

Meet the Scoop team

Kristin Jensen, publisher

Kristin (left) is the publisher and editor at Nine Bean Rows Books and Blasta Books and the editorial director at Faire magazine. Frustrated that many voices and many parts of our food culture were not being represented, she founded this boutique publishing house for tastemakers and storytellers to update the story of the modern, diverse and vibrant food scene in Ireland. Scoop will be another pillar of this Well Read & Well Fed family. Before she founded the publishing company via a previous Kickstarter campaign in 2021, Kristin was a freelance editor and writer for over 20 years, specialising in editing cookbooks and recipes. Kristin is also the co-author of Making Artisan Pizza at Home (Ryland Peters & Small, 2022), Sláinte: The Complete Guide to Irish Craft Beer and Cider (New Island, 2014) and a forthcoming cookbook to be published in June 2023. She has served as the secretary and the chair of the Irish Food Writers’ Guild. When she’s not pottering in the kitchen or got her nose stuck in a book, you’ll find her walking for miles in the countryside with her dogs, probably listening to a podcast about food. @edibleireland

Dee Laffan, editor-in-chief

Dee (middle) is a freelance journalist and editor with over 15 years of experience in the areas of food, drink and travel. Former editor of leading Irish magazines Food&Wine, Easy Food and Yes Chef! and publishing director of the fft hospitality title, she has also written for most national newspapers over the years. Dee’s work extends to broadcasting, where she is currently co-host of the Spice Bags podcast, awarded Best Irish Food Podcast by the Irish Food Writing Awards 2021, and is a contributor on the Ireland AM morning TV show. Her business also includes digital content consultancy, working with clients from all areas of the hospitality industry to create and manage digital strategies, content and social media. Dee’s passion for Irish food has led her to many roles in the industry: chair of Slow Food Dublin, co-host of food stages at Taste of Dublin, host of the BasteCamp stage at Big Grill Festival and a judge of Blas na hÉireann (the annual National Irish Food Awards). She is a proud member of the Irish Food Writers’ Guild. When Dee isn't nerding it up about food, she loves to indulge in her other love of films and TV shows, especially horror and sci-fi. @deelaffan

Áine Duffy, creative director

Following her four years at NCAD, Áine (right) moved to the Big Apple to eat, work and study before returning home to spend the guts of 10 years working for various publishing houses. She was art director for Irish Tatler Magazine and won Designer of the Year at the Magazine Ireland Awards in this role. Other titles she has designed include Food & Wine Magazine, Woman’s Way Cookbook, Irish Tatler Man, The Gloss and The Gloss Interiors, to name just a few. Her client list includes Brown Thomas, L’Oréal, Dundrum Town Centre, Coty and many more. She has also reimagined and created impactful branding for events like the Digital Media Awards, the Boots Family Awards, the Irish Tatler Women of the Year Awards and Irish Tatler Spa Awards. Most recently she redesigned the IDA Innovation Ireland Review Magazine and the HSE Health Matters Magazine. In 2017, Áine took a year out to travel across Asia, Mexico, Central and South America, including a four-day trek to Machu Picchu. She has not eaten a grain of rice since. @creativerobindesign
